Reimagining Milan in Stone: Osso Italia by Alkot Studio
At Osso Bar Italia, the classic charm of Milan collides with contemporary Australian hospitality in a striking new bar space designed by Alkot Studio. Drawing from Milan’s urban heritage, Alkot has created a richly layered interior that feels both timeless and inviting – with Finestone’s natural granite playing a central role.

Located in the heart of the city, Osso Italia is designed to capture the unpretentious ease of a long lunch or casual drink, without compromising on material integrity. At the core of the design is a sculptural bar, wrapped in Finestone’s Giano Black and Pegasus Blue granites – the two-tone stone palette a deliberate nod to Milanese architecture, where natural stone defines many of the city’s enduring public spaces.

Designing with Material Depth
The interior palette was developed around texture and tone. Finestone’s granites were chosen not only for their deep, rich colouration and subtle movement, but also for their ability to respond beautifully to changes in light. The surface of each stone reveals unexpected shifts in tone, giving the space a quiet dynamism.

Used across the bar countertop, bar front and dining area, the stones are more than just finishes – they define the experience. Their strength and durability make them perfectly suited to the demands of a hospitality environment, while their tactile quality elevates the sensory experience for every guest.
Navigating Constraints with Design Ingenuity
One of the key challenges in the Osso project was working within an existing space. The original kitchen remained untouched, and structural columns posed a challenge in creating a central bar area.

The outcome is a space that feels seamless and intentional, with Finestone’s natural granite anchoring the concept both functionally and visually.
A Collaborative Approach
Finestone’s involvement in the project went beyond material supply. The hands-on support from the Finestone team, including physical sample provision and collaborative input, helped ensure the stone selection felt intuitive and precise.
