Bringing nature home

In today’s world, where life often feels fast-paced and disconnected from the natural world, there’s a growing desire to design homes that foster a sense of calm, connection, and grounding. The ‘Cape House’ in Suffolk Park, near Byron Bay, is a beautiful example of how contemporary design can seamlessly integrate natural elements to create a sanctuary-like living space.

Created by visionary architect Aphora, Cape House has been brought to life by an amazing team including Coakers Building, Coakers Cabinets, and Platinum Stone Co, and is a tribute to thoughtful, nature-inspired design.

Nature at the Heart of the Home

At the centre of Cape House lies the kitchen where natural stone takes on a starring role. The dramatic Finestone Verde Alpi stone island bench immediately draws the eye, anchoring the space with its rich, organic texture and deep green hues. Paired with matching Verde Alpi splash backs and the understated luxury of stainless-steel benchtops, the kitchen achieves a rare balance: it feels both striking and serene.

This connection to nature continues throughout the bathrooms, where Verde Alpi vanity benchtops and an integrated stone basin in the ensuite echo the earthy palette and tactile beauty first introduced in the kitchen. Each stone surface, crafted with precision by Platinum Stone Co, brings a sense of permanence and longevity – an invitation to slow down and appreciate the finer details.

Materials that Ground and Uplift

The cabinetry, meticulously crafted by Coakers Cabinets, continues natures story throughout the interiors. Every piece has been designed to harmonise with the home’s broader aesthetic, providing storage solutions that are both highly functional and visually cohesive.

Rich spotted gum timber and cool polished concrete floors add depth and warmth to the home, emphasising texture and tactility. The natural grain of the timber and the smooth, luminous finish of the concrete interact beautifully, creating spaces that feel both luxurious and inviting.

Designed for Connection

One of the most breathtaking features of Cape House is how the interiors open out to sweeping ocean views. The architecture frames the landscape, blurring the lines between indoors and out. Whether you’re preparing a meal in the kitchen, relaxing in the living area, or sitting by the pool, you always feel surrounded by nature.

This deep connection to the surrounding environment is what sets Cape House apart. It’s not just about using natural materials – it’s about designing in a way that respects, enhances, and celebrates the beauty of the landscape.

A Collaborative Triumph

Cape House is a true testament to the power of collaboration between skilled craftspeople and visionaries:

Each has contributed their expertise to create a home that doesn’t just sit within its environment but becomes an extension of it — a modern retreat grounded in timeless natural beauty.
