A fresh uplift on an iconic Brisbane venue

When one of Brisbane’s most iconic nightspots, Cloudland, undertook a partial renovation of its much-loved Cloudland Garden, interior design studio Jumble & Stack was invited to reimagine the space. Known for its bold and daring design, Cloudland has long been celebrated for its dramatic interiors and theatrical atmosphere,  a true icon in Brisbane’s hospitality scene.

The brief called for custom-made tables that would capture the feel of a dining table but at bar height, blending comfort and elegance with the relaxed, social energy of a restaurant-bar.

Since Cloudland operates primarily as a restaurant but frequently hosts private events and functions, practical considerations such as flexibility and durability were essential.

To counterbalance the venue’s dark, moody tones, designer Kim Burns and her team sought a surface that would brighten the space while complementing Cloudland’s rich eclectic aesthetic.

The solution came in the form of Finestone’s Alba White marble, a stone prized for its soft white base, refined marbling, and timeless sophistication.

The understated beauty of Alba White marble

Installed across the dry bar tops and dining table tops, Finestone’s Alba White marble brings a sense of freshness and lightness to the space. The marble’s gentle veining adds visual texture while maintaining a clean, polished look that enhances the surrounding materials.

“We wanted a fresh white marble that had less grey than other white marbles but still had lovely marbling throughout the slabs,” explains Kim Burns, founder of Jumble & Stack.

The result is a transitional design that bridges the classic and contemporary, a hallmark of both Jumble & Stack’s approach and Cloudland’s distinctive identity. The Alba White marblecomplements the eclectic layers of timber, metal, and upholstery, creating a harmonious balance between bold character and refined simplicity.

Balancing beauty and structure

Behind the visual elegance lay a significant structural challenge: creating bar-height tables that could safely support solid marble and timber tops. With the increased height came the need for precise weight distribution and robust support. Through careful detailing and craftsmanship, Jumble & Stack achieved a design that is both sturdy and sophisticated – ideal for a busy hospitality setting where both style and practicality matter.
